This probably won't be on anybody else's list, but "Dark Blue World" is excellent.  One of the best movies I've seen in years.

It's the story of Czech pilots who eventually escape to England when Czechoslovakia is invaded by Germany.  In Czechoslovakia, they speak Czech, but in England they often speak English.  You can have subtitles in English or Czech (translating the one language into the other).

It is a love story (a couple of love stories, really), but it has a fair amount of action to keep guys like me interested too.  It kind of reminds me of "Pearl Harbor", only with better acting, directing, writing and comparable special effects.

If you tell me what kind of films you like, I could recommend some good French ones, although maybe not so recent ones, as I've been here for 12 yrs and don't keep abreast of the newest releases.

If you have a strong stomach anything by Chan Wook Park from Korea is pretty amazing. Oldboy and (Sympathy for) Lady Vengeance are unforgettable.

My favorite French Director is Jean-Pierre Jeunet. He did The City of Lost Children, Amelie, Delicatessen, etc all great movies. Highly recommended.
