Let me answer by asking you a question.  Why are you organizing social activities for your office?  If it is an attempt to bring camaraderie between your coworkers, you might be better off spending your time convincing the boss that there are other ways to make the employees work well together.

If it is out of some deep seated need to "be nice," throw a block party in your neighbourhood instead.

There are several article on the web lately about the benefit and detriment of social activities in the work place.  Depending on what country you work in, you could be setting yourself up for lawsuits.

Most planned social functions in the work environment do not have the desired effect.  The IT guys show up for the food and leave.  The brass hobnob among themselves and the cliques that exist are only highlighted for others to see.  This is not a cynical view point but a distillation of a bunch of reading and listening and other "retention" efforts that I have been involved in.

Parties to recognize a group or outstanding achievement should be few and far between.  Most people would rather have the money, the vacation, the t-shirt of some combination of the above.

Let the "social" activities build themselves...when they are spontaneous, they are more fun.  If you really have to, try googling "ice breaker activities."
