Ok, so my friend is building a barn. I'm moving my horse there with her. The thing is, I got my horse now because her barn was supposed tobe done in mid-october. It hasn't been started yet, so I don't think that's going to appen. I cannot afford to pay full baord at my barn now. I might be able to work off some of my board, so should I just wait it out before I ask her? I'm just owrried because Id don't want my family's money to become tighter then it is, and I'm not sure if it will.... What should I do?!?!

  1. You need to look out for your own welfare and that of your  horse;.  Plan on working off some board and look for a place to keep your horse in the interim.  Let your friend know, in a nice way, that you're planning on boarding your horse elsewhere until you hear from her and are updated on her barn construction.

Our barn was built by a two man team....we had many details that were included in the barn construction; tack room, shower, cement floor in the main aisleway, cement floor in the tack room and shower room.  We used mats over concrete in the shower and tack room.

Our barn was begun in May, and finished the last of September...the contractor's work was just exceptional.  Our barn is wired for telephone, lights, and water.   To do all of this takes time.  We were after a quality job and that's what we got.

  2. First, you should sit down with your friend and talk money and reality.  If her barn isn't started, what is?  Before my barn went in, pastures were seeded (takes two years for the root system to be adequate for grazing) and fencing was put up.   The entire ground going under it was prepared for drainage.  Do you see anything like that happening?

Since you already have your horse, and finances are a concern, you need a commitment from her, and you need an alternate plan.  You should talk to her and at least find out if her goals are realistic....but have a backup plan regardless.

  3. It's a bad time for some people to own horses right now unfortunately!  I don't own any, I'm a full time college student and I ride friend's horses, and two of them are selling right now because they just can't afford them anymore!  If your friend hasn't started the barn and it doesn't look hopeful, money might be the problem for her too!  I'd ask ASAP so you know what you're up against.  Explain your situation and make sure not to accuse her of getting you in your tight spot, but let her know that you need to make some decisions that are very reliant on whether or not she's still building the barn.

  4. This is just the first of August and it shouldn't take that long to build a barn. You can build a house in less time. I would find out when the construction will start. As I see it, there is plenty time before they have to start construction to get it done by mid October.

  5. there are some good people out there that will help you out with board for work, if you don't mind cleaning horse ****. all you need to do is ask. http://tonyonehorse.weebly.com
