  1. US because they consume 40% of the worlds oil

  2. Hands down: the USA!!! I'm an ecology major, living in Oklahoma, USA. I truly believe that everything in this world is created to contibute to its surrouding environment in its own way, whether it's just to be apart of the food chain or to simply contribute to the well being of other living organisms (example: the type of algae that gives coral it's color, since the ocean has raised slightly in temperature this particular algae is dying therefore coral bleaching occurs.)

What I've been taught to be fact: 1 child in America has an environmental impact of 12 or more children in India or other lesser developed countries. Highly developed countries, such as America, make up 20% of the Earth's population; yet we consume more than half of its resources.

Commercial logging is doing frighteningly significant damage in areas of the world such as the Rain Forest. The Rain Forest appears to have lush and fertile soil, yet the real story here is quite the opposite; once parts of the forest are destroyed it usually turns to desert. Which country do you think does the most commercial logging? Bingo, the US of A!

America is a throw away society, what we dump is out of sight out of mind. The sad reality is that  anything and everything we throw into rivers and streams and even into landfills will inevitabely end up in the ocean. The ocean inhabits roughly 75% of the earth, have we forgotten this? Out of site, out of mind. The US is also the #1 user of fossil fuels, which as you know contributes greatly to speeding up global warming.

Money is a huge downfall in this country, without it we seem to lose all sense of how to live without it. We're conditioned to consume and 'upgrade' every material possesion to keep up with society. Far too many people don't have a clue how to care for themselves with out money. Our government claims that money is the reason we "cannot" help lesser developed countries from starvation along with sickness from unsanitary living conditions. Well, I'd like to know what the rest of America thinks is more important: money, or a sustainable healthy environment with healthy human life? Are natural resources such as wood and crop seeds and water not truly free to the inhabitants of the earth? No, they apparently are not, we've made sure of that...and that is a sad and frightening fact of our world today.

Estuaries are where fresh and salt water meet, many different types of animals spend there first stages of life here before venturing into the world. Around the world these precious ecosytems are destroyed or re-built (which seldom works), destroying the habitats for many animals. Many are simply filled in and commercial buildings are built over them. Beach front property/hotels is a HUGE contributer to this! Wetlands are also an environmental 'cleanser' that we destroy for commercial use. Wetlands absorb pollution and sustain a number of animals and other organisms that rely on that particular ecosystem. They're also destroyed like estuaries, for commercial reasons they're filled in and have attempted and failed re-buildings.

Individuals can help, simply turning off lights and electronics when they're not being used can save a few pounds of carbon being emmitted into the atmosphere. Cutting back on driving walkable distances helps also. Recycle, reuse what cannot be recycled. Avoid plastics and pesticides, these chemicals NEVER biodegrade. Don't waste water or wood, our world uses water and wood faster than it can be replenished; mostly due to misuse. The list goes on and on and on, think of ways to help in your own daily routine...Hope that helps :)

  3. I think it would be large industrialized countries like the US, China, and Russia because the more people you have, the more wasteful that country will become, especially when we have so much and waste it, as oppose to countries that cherish everything and tend to not be so wasteful.

  4. USA

    highest per capita co2 emissions by a long way;

worst attitude, government causing most delay in agreeing international solutions, home of the multinational companies financing the 'denial industry'.

  5. China

China has already surpassed the US for greenhouse gas emissions. Some athletes are thinking of not going to the Olympics this summer because the air quality is so bad there.

  6. I think it would be China, considering how big they are.

The United states is also a possibility considering how many factories and wwhoop-dee-doo we have.

  7. No country contributes to global warming.  The slight warming that took place in the 1990s is part of a natural climate cycle produced by variations in solar output and shifts in ocean currents, both of which are beyond the control of any country.  At this time we are entering a cooling phase as a result of a lull in sunspot activity.

  8. The solar cycles are the only contributor to global warming. Tell your teacher to teach you something worthwhile and stop pushing this eco-n**i agenda

  9. All countries have a hand in this thats effectting the globe.

  10. China or US

china because they are going through their industrial revolution and they are spewing out greenhouse gasses

US because we consume so much of the worlds oil

  11. Former CBS News correspondent Bernie Goldberg says the liberal mainstream media is largely ignoring the voices of scientists and academics who are skeptical of the notion that global warming is caused by human activity.

  12. Philippines....?

I just want to have a spot for the Philippines in your statistics project. And I think it would be a bit boring if you only have China and US in your project. :))
