I am a student going to school for childhood educatiom, grades K to 6. For one of my classes i need to write out a math lesson using any topics in math from grades 2 to 6. Any suggesting from other teachers on how to do this and how should i simplify a math lesson for children. The lesson could last as long as 10 minutes.

  1. You could do something as simple as teaching fractions with pieces of pie, adding fractions with common denominators, multiplication using repeated addition, probability using a coin or dice - there are infinite possibilities. The thing with introducing math concepts is to break it down into very simple steps. Also, using manipulatives or pictures will really help.

For example - teaching fractions with pie - make sure that you show the pie, count the total number of pieces, count the number that are colored in.  Explain that a fraction represents part of a whole - how many pieces make up the whole pie? Then how many pieces make up the part that is shaded in? - You can get the picture from there. Below is a list of websites that might help. Good luck!!
