Make payments every month for as much as you can.  As long as you're continuing to pay, they don't "get after you" as if you were making no payments at all.

Well, your biggest issue is the little money part.

Your BEST bet, is to pre-negotiate and shop around, for a cash price for the procedure.   THen, you'll need to get a second job to pay for it.

That "little money no insurance" bit is NOT a winning survival strategy - that's the root of your problem.  A decent full time job will solve this issue, all around.
