I need a mic which deals with my problem...?

...of not standing very close whilst I sing.

Does anyone know any microphone which helps deal with this?

Because at the same time I have to play piano and I'm currently having to use Shure SM58 which I can't be heard through when I'm playing because it doesn't pick my voice up.

Please help.

Any help will be apprechaited.

  1. I am a sound engineer and my first bit of advice is:

    GET CLOSE TO THE MIC!!!

    When you watch professional performers on TV, they all are singing very close to the mic.

    Singing close to mic has a few BIG advantages:

    less chance of feedback

    less chance of other instruments being picked up by the mic (like your piano)

    better sound in general (your voice will sound more full instead of "thin")

    you will hear yourself better in the monitor if you have one

    A condenser vocal mic will have a bit more "reach", but you still need to be close.

    If you need to sing at the piano, get a boom mic stand and extend the boom to the center of the piano:
