I live in Indianapolis and remember how bad heat pumps were in the 70's and 80's. Thanks for your help.

  1. We just (last year) got a 3.5 ton 13 seer unit, replacing a 1970's model. Superior product and we save about 50.00 a month on electricity too. Cost us 6000.00 with all new duct work here in N.C.. It is a Goodman, has a lifetime warranty on the compressor and good all round warranty.

  2. If the climate is mild then yes,a heat pump is a good option. If you are in a colder than normal climate then preferably gas or electric is the best option.A cold climate will use your gas or heat strips anyway on a heat pump. The cooling  part is the same for a heat pump or a regular split system.

  3. If you have a heating and air cond man you can trust then GEO THERMO is the way to go. IT is much more expensive but cost half as much to run it pays for itself in 5-7 years.

  4. heat pumps only work when the outside temp is above 40 degrees when colder than that you need supplemental heat.

  5. heat pumps have really come along way since then,i use them in my company all the time and have good luck with them, the 13seer units are really cost effective in the south,we installed 150 units inside&out,at an apartment complex we have and they have done really good, the residents are reporting that they can see a cost savings of around 5%.
