i am in a band with my friends, and unfortunately none of us can hear my guitar over the drums. my amp is one of those crappy cheap-o starter guitars, and i would like to know what kind of amp i should be looking for, somewhere in the $200-$300 range

  1. You are going to need to spend 500-600 to get a stage worthy amp. I have a Fender Deville tube/solid state hybrid and I love it. I got a floor model for about 500.

  2. What genre of music are you playing? Metal, Rock, Classic Rock, Blues?

Ok cool I have 3 amp options for you:

First one is a Vox Valvetronix Ad30vt

Its very good for rock and can be heard over the drums, but it can't play any real heavy metal.

The next choice is Roland Cube 30x - its a versatile amp, more suited to hard rock/metal. If you ever decide to play blues or something similar though it is not as good as the vox ad30vt at playing blues.

The last amp is a fender superchamp xd

I have not tried this one myself, so i'm not sure if you would be able to hear it over a drummer, but it looks decent and has a tube preamp which is a bonus.

Try and see if you can try out either of those 3 amps at a local music store to see which best suits your style of music. I know for sure that you will able to hear the first 2 over the drums, I'm not so sure about the last one. I hope this helps!
