ive been lookin around on the internet, from what i can tell for my 96 maxima SE its gonna rune me like $150-200 for the part. i can pretty easily put it on myself so i dont need to worry about labor. I heard form a friend i could just do away with catalytics and put on a straight pipe exhaust, if this is possible how much louder will it make my car?

  1. well the thing is most are welded on  so you will need some way of cutting it off and some way of re welding it back on.. and 150 to 200 is what most shops will charged

  2. well if you have a straight pipe where your cat used to be and still have an exhaust, then it will be the same. Cats dont affect the noise level at all. If you run straight pipes all the way through the exhaust system, it will be loud. Dont get burnt by the cops because you'll get a nasty ticket...good luck!

  3. also your check engine light will come on. needless to say it is illegal.  up to 25,000 in fines.  also not enviormentally friendly without one.  they also need to be welded on not clamped. just fork over the dough and do it right. but you cut off your old one and you turn it in to the recycling center. that will put about 125.00 back in your pocket.

  4. you do need it for emissions and possibly for your o2 sensor. not sure about its location on that maxima. maybe up front. but it will be very loud. quiet it down with a nice performance muffler

  5. Please, don't drive without the converter. Try and at least act like you give a d**n about air quality. Your friend is a fool.

  6. That's illegal number 1. Do you have an emission test in your state? If so you will fail. Good luck!
