I am looking to buy a new cordless house phone with answering machine. I do not want a 2.4ghz phone as it will interfere with my wirless internet router that is at 2.4ghz. So I need a phone that is at least 5.8ghz or higher. Also I need at least one extra phone. Does anyone know of where I can get a good one or what brands are best.

  1. There are a lot to chose from. Mine is a GE 5.8 GHZ digital with 3 handsets. One has the anwser machine built in. It has caller ID, speakerphone, redial, 50 number memory, all the bells and whistles. I can get another hand set also. It has many features, my favorite is room monitor. When the kids are in the other room and get to quiet I use the room monitor to listen in on them and can hear them. It is the same as a baby monitor. They never know I am listening because it doesn't beep or light up in this mode. Very sneaky.

  3. I know this isn't a regular phone but if you have DSL you need to get SKYPE! It's an internet phone and you can get the cordless that comes with voicemail.  You get it through your internet connection and you use it like a cell phone. We paid like 150 for the phone but we pay 30 dollars a YEAR for unlimited long distance and everything. We love it :-)

  4. panasonic DECT phone would be the best choice... 5.8 ghz is going to give you LESS range and LESS battery life then the 2.4 ghz phone so you actuallay need something LOWER, the 1.9ghz DECT phones are great for this...

  5. I have had a wide variety of cordless phones, almost all of which turned out to be junk, no matter which brand name was on them.

Right now, much to my surprise, the best phone I have found was from Radio Shack. It is their expensive white one that has a red blinker on the handset that you can use with the bell off, a red bar on the wall unit that tells you if a call has come in while you were out (for phone company call answering), very clear sound (including audio-boost), touch-adjustable ring volume and audio volume, finger-friendly push buttons, lots of storable numbers, and a jack for a headset. I just looked over the phone and its wall unit and do not see any model number that I can provide to you.

I do not recall what frequency  band it is on but it is about three feet from my wireless router and I have NEVER had an interference problem so I think that is a needless worry.

I got one and then tossed out my other cordless phone and got a second one identical to the first.
