  1. I've got a Sony, I've had for 11 years. Works fine, still records and plays back OK.

Panasonic are a good brand, my parents had one for 15 years.

I'd avoid JVC though. Had one years ago and the tape eject system failed. I had to dismantle it to get the tape out and it's one that still isn't out on DVD. After clearing bits of plastic and screws away, I got the Sony.Fortunately the video tape was none the worse for wear!

You should get a good one for less than £150. Get one that has 6 heads rather than 4 heads as the picture and sound quality are better.

  2. Panasonic are the Best ones, with Sony-Aiwa 2nd....

The most reliable ones though are Matsui...(part of panasonic too)_

how about upgrading to a Philips dvd recorder, one of the best out there is the dvdr3480..

when you copy your precious videotapes to dvd, it cleans up the picture and enhances it...

  3. If you can afford it go for a dvd recorder, they are far better. I have a samsung one and it's great.

  4. Very few places even sell them anymore.

I would buy a harddrive/dvd recorder and just briefly borrow someone else's video player, and copy all your videos onto the harddrive recorder (using a scart lead). My LG harddrive recorder is amazing, and I could never ever go back to videos. It can copy everything onto dvd too if I ever want to back stuff up.

  5. vcr's are becoming obsolete and there isn't many models being produced. go for a dvd-vcr recorder combi, panasonic and phillips recommended.
