  1. wow, you came right out and told us your fan has lights

    and i must ask what's the purpose intended, a variable voltage, or, perhaps, a DC system? for a boat or RV?

Non solid state?  In that case you need a Variac or variable transformer (http://www.variac.com/staco_Variable_Tra... but they are quite bulky and wouldn't look nice mounted in your wall.  If you are getting noise from your present dimmer, there are ones made that are better filtered to help eliminate the emi noise.

  3. Most hardware stores will carry a fan control rheostat you can easily install as long as the fan has no lights attached.Ace, Home Depot, Lowes, should all be able to instruct you further with what ever speed control you buy.
