My favorite astronomical term is "syzygy".

It is the straight line alignment of three celestial bodies as in the alignments in the Earth/Moon/Sun system that cause both the Lunar and Solar eclipses.

It is also the only common English word containing three 'Y's.

Amongst the original 7 Astronauts were "Gus" Grissom, "Deke" Slayton, and "Gordo" Cooper. "Buzz" Aldrin landed on the moon, and his nickname became more famious with the creation of "Buzz" Lightyear. "Pete" Conrad was, at one time, called "Shakey" simply because that was the LAST nickname a test pilot would ever want, and Jim Lovell wanted to tease him.
