  1. YES you will need a passport.  The Federal Government has changed the rules on passports and although they have not yet issued an exact date will be requiring a passport for reentry into the country by mid year 2008.  In addition, most cruise lines are now requiring or strongly recommending that all passengers have a passport to eliminate problems.  If for example, you miss a plane connection and get to the departure port too late, you will not be able to fly to the next port to meet the ship without a passport.  And, if you get sick on ship or there is some other incident that would require you to fly back home, you will need a passport for reentry to the US.

    Just go to the US Passport Office web site and print the application form.  Mail the forms and required proof of identity and citizenship to the passport office nearest you; or if you like in one of the service center cities you can make an appointment to bring your documents to the office.

    The passport cost $97 for adults and normal processing time is four to six weeks.  Here's the web site:  http://travel.state.gov/passport/passpor...

  2. Unless it has changed I did not need one when I went on my cruise, I only need birth certificates.  I do have one and I just wnet down and received an application from the state licensing dept, went to walgreens got the passport photos and mailed in the request, photos and the check for the passport fee, something like $80.

  3. 1.) Obtain Application Form:

       First time Application:DSP-11

       Application Renewal:DSP-82

       Amendment/Validation Application:DSP-19

    The federal government does not allow faxed forms or photocopied forms. Printed copied from your computer are acceptable. You may obtain a form from a local acceptance agent. Do not sign the application form until instructed to do so when you are in front of an Acceptance Agent.

    2.) Proof of Citizenship:

    Birth Certificate - A certified copy of your birth certificate issued by the state, city or country of your birth (a certified copy will have a registrant's raised, embossed, impressed, or multicolored seal and date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office). If you are uncertain where to obtain an official copy of your birth certificate, locate the state agency office that will issue you one.

    If don't have a birth certificate or if you were born abroad, you can use:

        * A Certificate of Naturalization or an old passport.

        * A Certificate of Citizenship.

        * A Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America (Form FS-240).

        * A Certification of Birth (Form FS-545 or DS-1350).

    3.) Letter of Authorization/Order Form:

    Print out, complete, and attach the letter of authorization and Overnight Passport order form.

    4.) Two Passport Photographs:

    These photos must be recent (taken within last 6 months), identical, 2x2 inches, and either in color or black and white. They must show a front view, full face, on a plain light/white background (vending machine photos NOT acceptable). Photographs must be taken in normal street attire, showing you without head covering unless a signed statement is submitted indicating that the head covering is worn daily for religious or medical reasons. Dark glasses may not be worn in passport photographs, unless a doctor's statement is submitted supporting "the wearing of dark glasses is for medical reasons". Mail Boxes, etc. and Kinkos copies as well as other photograph studios provide this service. It is also critical that the acceptance agent (AA) sign the back of your passport photos.

    5.) Proof of Identity:

    A valid Drivers License, a Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship, Government or Military ID, or Corporate ID. (The more the better if you dont have a drivers license).

    If you are unable to present one of the above, you must be accompanied by a person who has known you for at least 2 years and who is a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident of the United States. That person must sign an affidavit in the presence of the same person who executes the passport application. The witness will be required to establish his or her own identity. You must also submit identification of you own.

  4. I'd be getting the passport ASAP. The passport agency has been overwhelmed and it takes longer than normal. You can pay extra to have your application expedited.

    We had our pictures taken at Wal-Mart. They need to be a specific size and on a specific paper.

  5. Go to your local post office. They'll answer all your Qs and give you an application. I would go ASAP to apply for one just to be safe. :)

  6. Go to your local Post Office, you'll need your ID and Birth Certificate.  Go soon because it takes a few months at best.  Also double check with your travel agent to see if you really need one.

  7. go to the post office with your birth certificate and driver license. QUICKLY...   They used to take about 3 months    but on your application there will be a place for your traveling date.  There is also a website from the government where you put some of your ss # and they have all of your info and can tell you where it stands in the process.  As the time nears and you don't have it yet CALL them and they will put a rush on it.  Bon Voyage!

  8. last time i talked to my travel agent he said i didnt need one...check with someone who would know for sure.

  9. yes you do, if it is going out of the country usually.

    They usually take a couple weeks to get.  You go to a post office they have the forms you need.  However if you go to a big city like philadelphia, you can get it the same day.
