  1. You don't need a trainer; you need a coach.

Try reasearching first what you want to run and how you can go about it before spending money on a coach. Distance running is something that you can largely do yourself.

  2. if you get a personal trainer you can usually get one at a nearby gym you would have to join the gym though. But they are still really good.

  3. Seconding Mr. Pip, you need a coach. Ideal would be someone certified both as a track & field coach and as a strength & conditioning coach (like I am, but this isn't a terribly rare combination--probably a couple hundred of us throughout the US).

We're not easy to find, regrettably. What I'd suggest is going to the National Strength & Conditioning Association's home page:

    http://www.nsca-lift.org/

The rightmost column has a "Find A Trainer" link. Go through that process for your geographic location. You're looking for a nearby "CSCS" (abbreviates Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist). Call or email whomever's nearby and ask them if they're certified by USA Track & Field. If they do private training, ask them to outline their philosophy and approach, and of course their rates!

Unfortunately, USA Track & Field doesn't have any way to search for coaches having their certifications.

    Good luck!

  4. you don't need a trainer, i saw this on espn and have been doing it ever since... after a normal work out, when your good and tired, go for a run

  5. go to your local gym and sometimes they will have trainers that will help you in a particular area such as running

  6. try looking in california

  7. Look in the phonebook.

  8. It depends on where you live.
