  1. Oh, irony. If it were really about medieval romance it would be about arranged marriages, s*x affairs, and church scandals.

Anyway, my favorite princess book as a child was The Paper Bag Princess. Maybe follow that line of thinking and create a clever way in which the servant uses her cleverness to become princess, or where the princess tricks a magical creature who was trying to trick her.

  2. How about something where all of the characters are 9, so the kids can relate to them. There is a Princess who is 9, somthing like Clarissa the 3rd. She is kind of spoiled and she needs everything thats she wants. One day she decides that she needs the perfect fruit smoothie, with exotic berries and things like that. So she has her fathers slaves' son, who is about her age, go and get the ingretients and make it. The slave's son, Peter, has always loved her secretely so he needs to make the smoothie perfect. So the book is about him going on crazy quests, fighting witches and goblins, swimming with aligators, just to make this smoothie. So at the end of the book he gives her the smoothie, they look in eachothers eyes and she pecks him on the cheek. (keeping it G. haha.) and then they hold hands and fall in love. Sorry thats just like a rough little outline for you. I hope I helped. What is this for?

  3. Please, for the sake of all the little girls out there, do NOT write about Prince Charming and living happily ever after.

The other answerers have some good ideas.

What about 2 peasant children who escape the plague by running off to a cave, and working hard to support themselves. They spend many years there because no one told them the plague was over. But in the meantime, they have matured (not a word you would use for 2nd graders) and fallen in love with each other etc etc etc
