Monday I lost an uncle that was very very close to me. He practically raised me until my father came back when I was 16. I need a poem to read at his memorial service. Please help?! I appreciate it!

  1. Funeral Blues

    W. H. Auden

    Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,

    Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,

    Silence the pianos and with muffled drum

    Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

    Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead

    Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,

    Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,

    Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

    He was my North, my South, my East and West,

    My working week and my Sunday rest,

    My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;

    I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

    The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;

    Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;

    Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.

    For nothing now can ever come to any good.

    (it's in the movie four weddings and a funeral.)

  2. Don't think of him as gone away

    his journey's just begun

    life holds so many facets

    this earth is only one.

    Just think of him as resting

    from the sorrows and the tears

    in a place of warmth and comfort

    where there are no days and years.

    Think how he must be wishing

    that we could know today

    how nothing but our sadness

    can really pass away.

    And think of him as living

    in the hearts of those he touched

    for nothing loved is ever lost

    and he was loved so much.
