all of the cities and all of the roads and highways. please help

All of the cities and roads? There are only THOUSANDS of cities in the United States and MILLIONS of miles of roads. That would be one very cluttered map.

That being said, the map at the link below is a very nice map, showing major roads and cities, and it prints off very well.

Well, you might be better off going to the store and buying a nice, large national road map for about $5.  Rand McNally makes nice and user-friendly maps (although the folding causes people a lot of grief sometimes).

This will be much more usable than trying to cram the world's 4th largest country (in area) with all the cities and highways in it onto a standard 8.5-inch by 11 inch sheet of paper.

Download ArcExplorer from the ESRI website then download the ArcGIS roads shapefile from the USGS.

It will be the only way to get ALL the roads in the USA.  But I guarentee you the usa will look almost black with all the roads overlaying the country.  All other maps (inlcuding google earth) contain mostly the main and secondary roads.

You will also be able to scale this to whatever you need.  However, I would suggest several maps to actually show information.
