  1. I've known pugs as being quiet, good small dogs. Here's a few links to check out:

    http://www.akc.org/breeds/pug/index.cfm (general pug appearance info)

http://pugs.cc/pug-information/ (a site full of pug info)

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm (a quiz to find the right dog breed for you)

    Good luck.

  2. both a papillon and the cavalier kings carles spaniel would be great, they are good for beginners, quiet, easy to train, small, they fit that discription well, you could look at your local shelter to see what they have. Adult dogs are calmer and are usually trained. but you never know if they have been abused, have problems or whatever so you could look in a local paper to see if there are any breeders in your area. Good luck with your dog

  3. i would highly suggest a poodle. They arnt the silly like foo foo dogs that everyone thinks of. I personally have a parti (black and white) poodle named bella. She is a mini and she is the best dog my family has had. She is generally quiet but when you want to play she will play. Loves to go on walks and is amazingly smart. The first day we got her at 8 weeks she already knew sit and was getting the hang out down. They do bark a lot though but that is an easy fix. I would highly suggest one of these dogs they are great dogs and amazingly smart.

  4. Black Labbb

Mine was only playful until she turned 2 years old. And the first time she barked she was over 1 years old.

When we had her she only barked when she saw a stranger walking up to our house. Trust me, black labs are your type

  5. I have had my Jack Russell Terrier for 3 years now....she is a delight. Small, very well mannered, even tempered, even when my Grand kids get a little goofy with her. She's smart as a whip too...I too was looking for a nice small dog, saw Eddie on the old reruns of Frasier, and started researching the breed. My Jack Russell, Libby, fits our family to a tee.
