I need a quizbowl club guide?

Question

My high school is beginning a quizbowl team, we already have a sponsor, and figuratively speaking we are just going to wing it.

My question is for anyone who has participated in a quizbowl club in either high school or college. I.E. what events or activities do you generally do in a quizbowl and/or how do you go about starting them.

I thought of calling a few colleges and negotiating with them to plan a competition with other similar clubs in the state.

(Just to clarify a quizbowl is like Jeopardy only with partners)
