Question:

I need a "fast" growing, "all weather" vine type plant........?

for privacy..... and that also produces nasty thorns or spikes, for security. I thought of cementing 2 trellis's within 2" of each other in a long row. Thought about bushes or shrubs, but I only have a narrow 3' area to work in. Thanks.

  1. Not big on the thorny part, however my favorite vine for privacy is Virginia Creeper..The leaves turn bright red in the fall...and during summer it attracts honey bees and hummers...Sometimes needs a little training to go where you would like it...after that look out...Grows shade or sun...and easily trimmed back if it needs it.....Oh and yeah,the inter vines can be used to make wreaths....Good luck


  2. Wisteria is a vicious grower - i've had mine grow a foot a week in the summer. For thorns, perhaps a thorny citrus espalier?

  3. You might consider vining roses.
