Alright I got a pair of polk audio r50's the other day from an uncle who bought them new and really never used them. Now I need a receiver. I have plans to buy other speakers to make a full 5.1 system but for now it is only going to be a 3.1. So if anyone wants to help me find a decent receiver that will do these speakers justice, i was thinking of the Denon 1508 but i dont know. help me out please.

  1. It depends on How much you want to pay and What you expect from receiver?

  2. I haven't shopped recently, so I won't recommend one. I'll just give you my opinions and you can take them or leave them.

Denon makes great receivers and always have. I don't think you will regret it. Other brands to possibly look at are Integra, Onkyo, Marantz, Pioneer, Yamaha.

I think one of the things to look for is "is it big and heavy". That means they use big power supplies, discreet components, metal and stuff so it can pump out power and last a long time.

Another thing to look for is if it has all of the inputs/outputs you need and the options you want or will ever want in the future.

In my opinion, receivers can make a difference, but not nearly as much as the speakers. They are getting really good at making receivers work well. You'll want to make sure you leave money to get identical speakers for the rest, so cost might be something to consider.

Also, when I shop, I go to several stores and talk to the sales people. Ask what the pros and cons are, what they recommend and why. Ask them what to look for in a receiver. Listen to them hooked up to the type of speakers you have. Then I wait a week and think it over, read about them on the internet, so it's not an impulse buy. Usually one or two stick out.
