I need to get a replacement long birth certificate for my son, but I do not have parental responsibility (he was born 2002). I need this urgently as his passport is being fast-tracked on mon 4th. I am getting the passport done with a letter of permission from his mother.

I hope to get the birth certificate asap. What documentation do I need and do I need to have parental responsibility?

  1. UK ? you don't need any id whatsoever to obtain anyones birth certificate.

  2. If you are in the UK then ring the Register office or the CAB to find out. The law seems to change from day to day.

If you don't have PR they might not let you have it for a passport in case you decide to flee the country with little one (btw I am NOT saying this is what you are trying to do) but you never know so best to ask first.

  3. UK - go to the office it was registered at and you need either your marriage certificates or YOUR birth certificate and it costs about £25, if you go in the morning you usually get it later that day

  4. It's a public document, anyone can get a copy. Just go to the registry office where your son's birth was registered, fill in the form and pay the fee.

  5. no i think you can just go and bye one

  6. If the child's mother gave you the letter of permission why didn't you just get the birth certificate from her too?  If you are listed on the birth certificate as the father then you will be able to request a copy of the birth certificate.  However, you will not be able to get it before next Monday.  I believe it took took a couple of weeks for ours to come in the mail.
