  1. The best balls that will produce the most spin on the green will be Titleist Prov1x, Nike One Platinum, Callaway Tour ix, Taylormade Black LDP, and Bridgestone B330-S Tour.  All of these balls are used on the PGA tour and will produce the most spin you can get.  This is also true for drives, fairway woods and long irons, which will cause a slice or fade to be more pronounced.  For that reason, many good players prefer to use a ball that they can spin almost as much on the greens, but will also spin less off drivers and fairway woods.  Those balls would be the Titleist Prov1, Nike One Black, Callaway Tour i, Taylormade Red LDP, and The Bridgestone B330 Tour.  Its very unlikely that these balls will not spin enough for you.

IMHO, all of the above balls are way too expensive.  They are all around $40-$50 per dozen.  I can alos tell you for certain that the Prov1 and the Prov1x do not go as far as the Nike Distance PowerSoft, which is only $15 per dozen.  The Nike Distance PowerSoft was rated by Consumer Reports as the best ball for the money.  They rated the Nike One Black as the best ball without regard to price.  I rarely spin the ball, even with the expensive balls.  But I have no problem getting the Nike Distance Power Soft to stop on the greens.  It doesnt spin as much as the Prov1 or the Nike One Black, but its enough for me and it costs 1/3 as much.

  2. Good questions!

If you're hitting it solidlly and creating a divot then you should be getting plenty of rotation on the ball.  The DT Solo is a harder ball and won't compress as much.  The ProV 1 by Titleist will give you more spin while keeping some of the distance the harder DT Solo provides.

Hope this helps!  Don't forget to fix your divots and ball marks lol!

  3. I think, over the years, the most consistent soft ball has been the Maxfli.

  4. Try the NXT. It is great around the greens.

  5. Soft and more spin? GO with the ProV1 or ProV1X.

Moving up in price just a little to the NXT Tour will also provide more spin with a soft feel.

I require the same and use the following balls

    Bridgestone B330s

    Titleist ProV1 and ProV1x

    Titleist NXT Tour

    Srixon URS

  6. for a cheap ball i really like the TopFlite D2 Feels. yes i know "rockflite" but they really made a good ball in the D2 Feel.

  7. There is nothing wrong with the Titleist DT /So-Lo so far as the spin rate is concerned if it is hit properly. Spin is not the function of the ball. It is the function of the golf swing and the manner in which the ball was struck. If one hits the lower third of the ball on the decent , hammering it into the turf, the ball will spin. If it isn't hit in that manner it will not spin.

  8. I've included a link below from Golf Digest's Hot List for 2008 golf balls.  The ones that got a "gold" rating are listed first and sorted by price range.  Note:  There are 5 pages to the link.

Myself, I'm not good enough to play Titleist Pro-V1's.  I still hit too many wayward shots to lose a $3.50 golf ball so I stick with the brands around $20.  I went with Golf Digest's suggestion of the Precept Distance IQ 180.  It's a decent ball for the price.  They also gave the Top-Flite D2 Feel a good rating.  I've never been a Top-Flite fan, but thought I'd give these a try since they were only $15 for 15 balls.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Not at all like the "Rock-Flite" balls they used to manufacture.

I can actually make the Top-Flite D2 Feel check up when chipping from just off the green.  That's something I've been unable to do in the past.

  9. I prefer the Ben Hogan Deep Tour Ball....kind of expensive but will spin very well for you. The price range is around $40. I play them exclusively, soft and durable. Also if you are having any trouble with your game I recommend this site....help me alot

  10. Dont sweat your ball choice so much. Buy a decent ball and then forget it! If you expect any ball to significantly change your game, you're fooling yourself. yesterday I played some cheap junk ball and honestly, I played just as well. I hit the same clubs from the same yardages. Spend your money on some lessons. good luck!
