I need a song that will impress and be good for my vocal range?

Question

There's a variety/talent show at my school every year. I was in it last year and I had a fun time and plan to be in it again.

I want a song that is impressing. I don't know exactly the correct words to explain it, but I'm in the middle of being in the middle and being a soprano. (If someone would give me the correct term for that, that'd be great :) ) I want a good classical or opera like song that is good for that voice range.

What you're saying is you're a mezzo soprano.

As far as a song, look through some Broadway things. In my opinion, some good middle range Broadway songs are in Wicked.

Mezzo Soprano would be your range. And anything that Cecilia Bartoli sings would be good for you. I dont know if you care, but Se Tu M'ami is my personal favorite. Maybe you'd like it too?

The Habanera (from Carmen) is a mezzo-soprano staple!  It's sung in French, and the sheet music can be found for free here:

Just click on "No. 5 Habanera: L'amour est un oiseau..." The aria goes up to the F below soprano C, so it's perfect for a mezzo.

edit: Wow, why the thumbs down? This song would be overdone if it were an audition piece, but it's perfect for a variety show.

Some opera/classical suggestions from what I can guess about your voice type:

"Voi che sapete" from The Marriage of Figaro

"Pie Jesu" from Faure's Requiem

"Una voce poco fa" from Barber of Seville

The last one can be a little tricky because it's for a coloratura. But if you can pull it off, it'll be very impressive.
