i need to find a penpall, blog, newsgroup, community who is interested in AI. not the kind that will fetch a beer from your fridge, but the kind that for the time being copies the human "soul". I want ideas tossed at me on questions such as what is motive? how do you make something want to do something? what makes me tick? Is knowledge and quest for enough? to much?

i don't even know if communities like this exist, but i need some ideas thrown at me. So if you are the type that likes to wonder about these things, we will find a way to contact each other.

  2. Well, you've found at least one in me! If you'd like to start a contact, you can reach me at the email or with Y! Messenger, through my Answers profile.

Also, take a look at the question I recently asked, as that comes to me from AI research. Specifically Douglas Hofstadter's work on Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies as valuable tools for both conceptualizing consciousness, and programming computers to "think" (give responses that seem correct to us).

I am not up to date on the field, and this work that I'm reading about is from the mid 90's, so I'd love to hear about where these sorts of ideas have gone since then. But anyway, I'm a philosopher who is fascinated by AI, consciousness, neuroscience, and all that jazz. If you'd like, I'm up for a correspondence
