Simply refrain from opening any e-mails until u feel ready to do so. Yahoo has unlimited storage, or move them to a new folder for later reading or deleting.

If you cannot appear offline to them, then one way might be to generate an 'auto response' saying you are away from your computer for a few days/ a week, and will get back to the sender when you return.

You can change your email preferences to "no mail" and go to group's homepage to check the messages and have no mails in your mailbox :))
