3. The beauty myth is the modern conception of women’s beauty. In our culture most people, men and women, believe a woman must be thin, tall, and big breasted to be beautiful. How have you been affected by the beauty myth throughout your life?

  1. I have been treated like every other woman that is not considered to be, "tall" or "thin" or "large breasted". Which means, I had to develop a personality and intelligence to "make my way". I snagged myself a hottie for a husband though...

But, there are always obstacles to not being the uber-representation of the modern conception of beauty.

It was awful growing up with a sister who was a model...oiy vay.

  2. Yes, people assume because I have big breast that I am uneducated. Especially men they think they can automatically make uncalled for gestures and comments and I won't answer back.

  3. The beauty myth I think is most dangerous to teens - who are just forming their identities.  Grown women are perhaps a little less susceptible to the beauty myth- although it has certainly affected the way I have been treated.  I am on the shorter side, very large b*****s, little waist, and large hips- and I have been treated as a s*x-kitten airhead because of it.

I think what is more dangerous is the quest for perfection in terms of looks, and the way the media shows women- photoshopped, with tonnes of make-up, skinny models etc.  Leads to self-esteem problems, and in some, eating disorders.  Take a look at some of the "thinspiration" videos on YouTube- disgusting, yet points to a growing problem with teenage girls, and their quest for perfection.

I don't think that this is going to change anytime soon- in fact, it is only getting worse.
