I need a wood craftsman: how do I find someone?

I'm an artist with an idea for a jewelry box (or something very close to it). I'm hoping I can find a skilled carpenter/craftsman to build it for me. How do I even go about doing this? Is there a special term besides carpenter/craftsman for this type of person that I should be aware of?

  1. Check with a local woodworking guild/club, Rockler or Woodcraft stores.  They will normally be plugged into to people who can do this for you.   It also depends a lot of  whether you need one made or 1000 a month.

As someone who does this type of thing a suggestion I have is to get your design complete.  The people you are going to work with are more engineering than artists and you will waste or pay for a lot of their time if you go in with ideas that can only be described by hand waving and "kind of likes."    Also be open to their ideas on how it should be constructed from the technical aspects.

  2. try looking up craftsman or carpenter in the yellow pages and ask them if they can help you. Im sure they would be happy to assists u and help u with any questions

  3. you need a woodworker...
