This is the criteria: My job is in retail, and the hours fluctuate between 40 and 45 hours. My shift is Tuesdays-Saturdays 7am-3:30pm. Off on Sunday and Mondays. Here's my problem. My husband and I have a two story home which includes, kitchen, living room, family room, 4 bedrooms and two baths. Our children are grown. He works 3rd shift, so he sleeps days. His chores are the mowing and sometimes cooking. That leaves the house keeping to me. Since we are off together on Mondays only, I need a schedule that gets it done on the other days. And I have family things I like to do on Sunday, so I don't want to do it then either. If you can help, I'll heart you forever.

  1. 1st thing is to get rid of your clutter and get organized--it's easy to feel overwhelmed when you are drowning in crapola (I am a recent graduate of crapola island myself lol).  Then, get one of those mr. clean shower washer things, a few packs of tidy bowl and a clorox toilet wand for the toilet.  Your bathrooms are now virtually self cleaning except for the vanity, mirrors and floors.  For these you will need a swiffer sweeper, a swiffer wet jet and several microfiber cloths.  Think convenience.  Make your bed everyday--whoever is the last person out of it.  Nothing pulls a bedroom together and gives the appearance of tidiness like a make bed.  Then invest in stylish laundry hampers with covers.  One for each bedroom that is in use and one for each bath.  Leave laundry for the evenings--its one of those throw it in and forget it for awhile jobs (much like running the dishwasher).  Pick 2 nights a week where you will do a load or 2 of laundry.  When it comes to floors, do NOT schedule to do them all in one day--you will hate it, hate yourself, and then not do it.  I do all my upstairs floors on 1 day (including the stairway) each week.  I vac the bedrooms and hallway and stairs then swiffer and wet jet the bath. Dust on the same day you vac and do it before hand so that you vac up any strays.  Maybe the 2 of you can commit to spending 1 hour on mondays simultaneously cleaning, that way things get done faster, you don't feel overwhelmed and you will have the rest of the day to do your couple stuff.  Really, the key is organization. If you aren't constantly picking up the clutter, you can clean your whole house in about an hour.  Hope this helps!! Good luck!!

  2. My suggestion involves keeping your momentum from the workday going before you reward yourself by relaxing at home. When you arrive home, set a timer for half an hour and do some cleaning. For the first 5-10 minutes, put away anything you may have brought home with you- wash lunch tupperware, hang up jacket, put away items bought that day, etc. (Of course you first need to determine a place for everything in your home so it stays organized.)

Then break down the remainder of the time as others have recommended by room, or vacuum one day, dusting the next, etc. I'd try to stick to a schedule for the 5 days of your work week. Write it on a chart and check off each day as you go.

  3. Sounds like a big house for just the two of you, I'm assuming your grown children are out of the house.  My suggestion would be to break down this big task. Do a little bit every day after you get home and your husband is at work.  For example do vacuuming one day, dusting the next, and so forth and so on.  If you would like to keep track of what it is that you've done and what still needs to be done you can make a weekly calendar.

    Good luck!
