  1. First of all. Practice, then practice more. Nothing helps you be better prepared for a performance than really being confident with what your doing. The previous poster made a very good point. It is really important that you really become your character, when you walk on stage, you should no longer be you, the only person the audience should see is your character. The people watching you will be making judgements from the moment you walk on stage.

Another thing to remember is to never let the audience keep you from going all out. A problem that many students in my drama classes have is that they are afraid of what other people will think. You should never let anything that anyone says stop you from performing your best and giving justice to the part that your playing. Even if you mess up or you dont do well. Just get up there and perform at your very best, and dont make mistakes obvious. Unless the audience knows your skit word for word, chances are they arent going to notice.

Overall the best advice is to just have fun. Let me tell you, nothing feels better than going on stage, being prepared, and giving the best performance you can. Trust me, you will love that feeling. Good luck with your skit and the rest of your acting career.

  2. The main thing I can say is make it real to you. I have a lot of theater experience and the one they always say is to make it real. Make your emotions real and as believable as you can, Become your character andlet that character become you and there's no way you'll lose

  3. Auditions.

When you walk in have a smile on your face, walk to the casting directors (the people at the table), give them your H&R (head shot and resume), and then do what you must. If auditioning for a movie or commercial that includes singing continue reading if not look for where i have bold letters and start again.

now go over and give your sheet music to the pianist. Make sure you have marked the start of the 16 bars, and the ending. Give him a tempo, and tell him whether you want him to play an intro or to give u the starting note, and then you start and him follow along. (i recommend the second). make sure you know all of the lyrics and the tune, in case you are required to keep singing, do not be shocked!! also be aware, they may stop you early but this does not mean they did not like you.

OK START READING HERE IF SINGING DOES NOT APPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

now if you must cold read, make sure that you do not stare at the paper the whole time you read, the casting directors want to get a sense of what you are like, and your personality. If you already know the mood then act the mood, do not just be bright and bubbly, because you may be saying i want to kill you. (unless of course you have a weird character.. hahaa). If you are giving a side (section of the script) before your audition keep reading, if not then once again look for the bold letters or capitalized or w/e u want to call them.

ok now what you want to do is take the side, and write all over it. no not just mumbojumbo but actions you want to have while you are reading the side. (i.e wave, peace sign, etc.). Then if you have a long enough side try to find a character arc, which is when the character changes in the dialogue. example, do they start happy, and end crying? You wouldnt be happy the whole time and suddenly switch to crying, you have to have a build up, so decide which lines are hints to the feelings. Then underline main words in the line that you need to put some umph into. hahaha.

OK KEEP READING (yes this is obnoxiously long sorry...)

if you are just cold reading then try your best to skim over it very fastly. and then turn around. yes turn around. get into your character. and then turn around again and be a different person. then have a dramatic pause, this is something i can not tell you, you must feel it, and then start reading. when you are done, do not say thanks im finished, stop and be your character until the directors cut you off. After this you are done. no matter what they say say thank you for this opportunity, and then gracefully walk out!

    OK.

This was a lot to take in, and some of it is advanced stuff. so just do an audition, and try to take in as many of these tips as you can. the only way to learn is to try!

    BREAK A LEG!

ok one. dont get an agent now. wait until your successful or else there will be no point, because a good agent will not want you. thats harsh but the truth. also try classes. and i know you dont want to do theater, but it is a good idea to try it, because theater is the roots of every other type of acting, so it is good to get a little experience in that department, but that is just my opinion.

    and for clothing

    your a girl.

dont wear anything toooo revealing, nor conservative. show that you love your body (even if you dont), in a good way. make sure you wear something flattering!!. But once again that is for you to judge, and if you are not sure if its good ask someone, how do i look?

  4. 1) forget about everything in your life because you don't exist in this characters world; what helps me is taking one day out of my life to dress like the character, eat like the character, think like the character, and overall just act like the character.

    2) Use your inner resources: if you're in a scene where you are writing, you know how to write so take the time to spell out each word like anyone would normally write... don't just scribble quick doodles.

    3) don't make it obvious that you're thinking about what you are going to say next

    4) listen to what your costars are saying. If one of them messes up a line and you were too busy thinking about what you had to say next you will both be stuck or you might just move on to what you were gonna say and it won't make sense.

    5) react like everything is happening for the first time. You may have practiced hearing the news of a death a million times but for your character it is the first time they're hearing the news so they won't be expecting it.

    6) don't OVER act. If you are setting the table and your bf calls and breaks up with you you wouldn't sit there and mope you would continue setting the table but with anger and hatred.

    7) Don't knock down the fourth wall between you and the audience. They aren't a part of your world and they aren't really there to your character

    8) I know it sounds negative but expect the worse. There is a 50% chance you will go onto that stage and someone in your scene will mess up a line so be prepared to make something up but be sure it goes along with what comes next. Remember, the audience isn't holding a copy of your script in their hand so they don't what's a part of the scene and what's not so don't make a big deal about it

    9) Lastly be confident in yourself and in your character because the only person that can make you feel sure of yourself is you!!
