  1. Dyfus??  Heh.  Doofus.

Adopting a friend's baby would be opening you up to a world of trouble.  She'll want to interfere and usurp your parenting.  She'll hold it over your head that she is the "real" mom.  And what if she changes her mind?

Have her place the baby with a reputable adoption agency.  It's better for everyone.

  2. adoption lawyer

  3. i have a friend who went though the same thing.  she adopted another friends baby.  what she did is she contacted a lawyer and had him draw up the papers for the adoption.  she payed for all the prenatal care and the birth on the agreement (and it was notarized)  that if the birth mother were to change her mind that she would have to pay back all the money.  on the day the baby was born it was handed straight to my friend it never went to the bio mom.  and the day she was discharged the adoption papers were signed.  the birth mom has 72 hrs to change her mind on everything.  and it is best to not let her have much if any interaction with the baby in the hospital.  after the adoption is legal you should really limit her seeing the baby until it is a bit older.  in her case the birth mom was arrested and has her other two kids put into foster care so the birth mom has no interaction with the kid.  all went well and the baby is now a 6year old and happy with her family!    good luck and i hope all works out!

  4. I am concerned that you want to "take the baby" that you say it is too late to "get rid of".

Please!  This language is so very hurtful, disrespectful, and damaging.

If you are even considering this, or any other adoption, or not, you must use language that is respectful to this birthmother and child.

You will have to contact an adoption attorney or a Family Law attorney to do this legally.  But she should really consider a private adoption agency located in the phone book, where she is able to select from approved, qualified adoptive parents totally im tune with the needs of children and their birthmother, and can provide counseling, financial assistance, legal help, and medical care.

If she "might get in trouble" with the state, then I am assuming she might test positive for drugs when she delivers?  If so, the state may take the baby unless she goes through a licensed agency.  They will investigate her home and other children in any case.

Please help her to make the decision that is truly in her best interest, and the best interest of this baby.  That may or may not be you.

  5. i say talk to your friend if you cant take the baby (i wouldn't to much trouble later her still knowing her real mom and knowing that her mom didn't want her but kept the other 2 and its right there...plus her wanting her back in a year yea bad idea)   there is soooo many couples out there that will pay for everything for her if they could have the baby and she could also talk to them and still see the baby later...i say just call up an adoption agency in your area and talk to them w/ out giving your name or anything else and see what they have to say

  6. You need to consult a lawyer who specializes in adoption.  You should also check with your local and state websites to figure out what needs to be done to get the process started.  You will need to legally adopt and I believe the mother has up to 72 hours after delivery to change her mind.  Look into it though.

  7. No problem.  Go through an adoption attorney to make sure everything is done, done properly & in a way that won't come back to bite any of you in the rump.
