Question:

I need advice about fitting rear wheel of a bicycle?

Just been doing up an old road bike - and when the rear wheel slides onto the frame, one side of the axle (where the gears are) slots in right to the end of the housing on the frame, but on the other side the axle doesnt go all the way to the end of the housing.

If I did push it in further the wheel would be wonky. I mean, it's in the housing but is kinda towards the outer end of the slot.

I've tightened it up and ridden a bit and its been ok, but I'm kinda worried that I've set it up wrong.

It's not quick release or anything.

Any advice appreciated.

  1. This is why we need pix in YA, YA are ya listening?  Apparently not...

Anyway, it sounds like the axle lays firmly into the slot on the right, but there's play on the other end...tighten the nut finger tight on the end where it seats firmly, then use the free play at the other end to adjust the position of the wheel so it doesn't rub on anything...snug 'em both up and yer done.

  2. i think you have set it up right

    so no worries

but you could ask at your local bike shop
