What is the current uk government advice on travel to Sri Lanka for tourists.

Strongly advise you to read article on Sri Lanka at www.lonelyplanet.com. If you want up to the minute info from some one on the spot, try the thorn tree forum its used by backpackers and theres usually some of those in most places dangerous or not. There was a travel warning out for there last month with bombs in Colombo.

I just been there for 3 weeks and had a brilliant holiday. But to be honest with you, I would not go there if not really necessary. Is just to dangerous at the moment and you never know where anything will happen.

Why it's absolutely safe... Colombo is especially safe to go to for holiday... enjoy.

i agree with the other answerer. dont go unless its absolutely necessary. even travel insurers wont cover you at this time anyway. it's too dangerous and security will be a right pain anyway.. i went for 3 weeks this past july and even then security was very unpleasant. with the situation now, i'd avoid going...
