He will be moved to a base closer to where I will be attending school, but we are not sure exactly when. It seems that he will be moved once I am already going through the semester. It will be my first semester at this school (I am moving to be near him and vice versa) so I don't really want to get a separate apt for only two months or so cuz i don't think id be able to get away wit dat (seein how u usually have to sign some kind of contract when renting) Also, once we live together, my school will be about two hours away from where we will be living. What should i do? Any bright ideas on how we could compromise? Anyone kno of any school near the Ft. Hood area that offer a degree in Speech Pathology?? (Besides TX STATE)

  1. There are no Army Rangers at Ft. Hood. Maybe your husband is Ranger qualified (graduated from Ranger School).

  2. First of all - you can rent an apartment for 2 months.  I had to do it, once.  I rented out a room in someone else's 2-bedroom apartment and we split the rent 50/50; it worked out very well.

Secondly - I know it's hard, but why not just live separately while you're in school, and meet at the halfway point every day just to spend some time together?

Being that you're marrying an Army Ranger, you're going to have to spend a lot of time apart anyway, so you might as well use this time and this challenge to strengthen your relationship and work on your degree - after all, you'll be moving every 3 years or so and you'll want to have a degree then. ;)

  3. A popular thing for military members and their families is to take courses online. Another option is that there may be a campus on base to check out.

  4. Seeing that you are just starting school, Fort Hood has a campus on post where you could enroll and take your prerequisites (English, Math, History, etc.).  Here's the link to CTC.   They offer classes on post and have a campus right outside the gate.  You could always transfer at a later date to TX State of other institution where you can focus on Speech Pathology specific courses.

Shop around for apartments in Killeen.  Some are real slums.  There are also some nice properties in Coppers Cove, which is closer to the CTC campus.

  5. First...where are you moving to?  If you are going to Fort Hood, TX....there aren't any Ranger Battalions at Fort Hood.  Perhaps your husband has completed Ranger School and has a Ranger tab?

As for moving, you two need to discuss where it is you want to live.  Do you want to live closer to base or closer to the school.  Your best bet would be to try to find a location in the middle somewhere, but it would also depend how much you are willing to pay for rent and so forth. Or, you could just live on base for FREE in Gov't housing, depending on what Rank your Fiance' is.

Also, check the base Education Office.  There are additional schools that hold classes on base.  Most classes are at night and on weekends (on base).
