I need advice for a dirt bike...

Question

1) I need help convincing my dad to let me get a dirt bike. I will pay for it but I haven't asked him yet because if he says no, it's a no no matter what.

2) What would be a good bike to buy (my friends say a Honda 70 is good)...

3) I was thinking about buying the bike used. Good-Bad what? Where would i get it? Ebay?

4) Is it legal to ride a dirt bike on the side of a VERY non-busy road?

5) Is there anything else I need to know?

I went through the same exact thing you did.

1.  Tell him your getting a small dirt bike and going to get plenty of equipment and you wont do any stupid things.

2. Depending on how big you are anywhere from a 70 to a 125.

3.  My first bike is a used one, craigslist or ebay motors is good for that. BUT make sure you check to make sure there isnt anything wrong with the bike.  Check the bike out with someone who knows bikes.

4.  It is legal as long as you have insurance and a street title. (and licenses plates and all that jazz)

5. Don't fall in love with the first bike you see.  Everyone does it but you need to keep an open mind.

to be honest it's getting harder to use bikes off road because the law has changed and the goverment have changed the catergeries of lots of the lanes which mean if where you wont to use it is classed as a green lane you need a licence  mot tax insurance most other lanes are now not alloud to be used by motor vehicles if you have privite land you can use then there is no problem to use it but if your not leagal then you cant use it on the road at all no matter how little the road is used so you would have to push it on the road and make sure the engine was off or it is still an offence ..........................hope this helps

Tell your dad that its a good sport to get into becuse aslong as you take it easy for the frist few weeks and have the body armour,helmet and gloves if you came off you have far less chance of doing any serious damage .

2 i know a honda cr80 is a very fast bike for a 80cc not sure on a honda 70 but im guesing if you go for a quite new model ( any thinf from 1999 to 2008 model) the power band will be awsome .

3 unless you have alot of money , £2500 for a 08 model honda id go second hand .

4 am afraid it not legal but im sure if you diden anoy the neiughbours or go fast you would probably get away with ( im not accepting any resposibilty for saying that )

5 they can be heavy on petrol  if you use the low gears in high revs , normaly 2 stroke wich means you need to mix 2 stroke oil into the fuel . also are heavy bikes if you come off it and it lands on you . the best thing you can do is try to slide and always avoid crashing into somthing , if you know you cant avoid hitting somthing jump off yould do alot less damge to your self. if you want to know anything else add me on msn [e-mail] or mail me a question :)
