I need advice for cleaning slate, I have a very dirty slate floor that will not get clean! What should I use?

My guess is that it is not sealed. You can clean it with mild soap and water or vineagar and water. Then once it completely dries, you can put on a stone sealer and enhancer. This brings out the colors of the slate and make it very easy to clean next time as nothing obsorbs into the slate. If you do not want the rich colors of the slate to come out than get the sealer without the enhancer. DO NOT GO CHEAP ON YOUR SEALER. It is worth every penny. Once you apply it though you cannot take it off.

I would rub a little bit of oil on it.

I use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on almost everything.  They sure did clean my tile and grout, so I think if'd be worth a try.
