  1. Australia's economy is booming and salaries are generally high, but immigration is restricted to skilled workers who have qualifications and experience in specific occupations where there is a shortage of workers in Australia.

    See Form 1121i  http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121...

for a list of required occupations and professions. If you do not have skills and recent experience in any of these fields, you will not be granted a visa.

Applicants must have a proficiency in English at least equal to an IELTS score of 6 across the 4 areas of measurement and must pass a points test and meet Australian health  requirements.

See http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm for everything you need to know. Links from this page will take you to the points test and IELTS and health requirements.

    EDIT:

You additional information makes a huge difference to my answer. If you already have citizenship, there is plenty of work in Australia but you may need to work on your English to become really proficient to make it easier to find a good job. We already have heaps of Italians here and they seem to be very happy and prosperous and get along well with Australians. Our lifestyle is very good if you like beaches, the outdoors and sport and our nightlife (in the cities) and food are excellent. If you're heavily into cultural pursuits, Australia is behind Italy in that respect but it's still a great place to live.

If you can, why not come for a holiday and see what you think.

  2. If you have citizenship, then buy an airline ticket and check it out for yourself. Many (but by no means all) parts of Australia are very buoyant now with good employment prospects. However, don't delay as the new leftist government is doing its best to wreck the economy.
