I've already taken the ACT 8 times (only two were the real one) and my problem is that i CANNOT focus when it gets to the reading and science sections. When i take the two tests individually (practice) i have absolutely no problem, but when test day comes i simply can't focus and i even get blurred vision from reading so long. I need advice, what do you suggest?

  1. I think that when you take the real exam, just pretend like you're taking a practice exam. Think of it as a practice test. Just keep practicing under the timed conditions with no noise around you, and before the actual test, just relax and get lots of sleep. Standardized tests make me very nervous too, but just take the real exam as if you were taking it at home. Good luck.

  2. alright. i already took the ACTs (just for practice) and i did okay without any prep but then again it didn't matter to my academic marks. take it next time like it doesn't matter and it's a goof. you can always retake it. when it came to the science section i was dead. you have to take a bunch of days off before the actual day of the test or you will be fried. keep yourself happy.

  3. Keep taking practice tests, get lots of rest and sleep before your tests (real and practice) and use relaxation exercises prior to the test (you can do a Google or Yahoo search).

If none of those things work, seek out a counselor.

  4. You sound like someone with 'exam nerves' or 'exam fright' You have put yourself under pressure and you have to think. Why does the real exam cause you to lose focus? I suggest that you drink water- plenty of it. If you drink 32 or 48 oz now, add more- at leaast 12 more. We can use as much as a gallon a day.Although you are studying for an exam, engage in activities you enjoy so you can 'de-stress' and get whatever is bothering you out of your system. Find the time- five or ten minutes each day to do something pleasant for somebody. It could be helping a friend, relative, poor reader in a community to read or complete science homework.Teach others-especially those in need; and it has nothing to do with a career. You can join a group who visits the orphans ,elderly, sick and shut -in etc. This will allow you to get 'outside of your regular lifestyle- outside your box'. I perceive you to be a bright student but you are 'high strung' or a 'perfectionist' or a person with lofty goals who would be upset to receive an A- minus because your goal was a straight A.I could be wrong. In any event, It is essential to reach for the stars or moon.If you can, eat a lot of fruits because they too are good 'brain' food.In addition to studying, reaffirm yourself by telling yourself you can; and you will. All things are possible to those who believe nothing is impossible or too hard to achieve. Success to you!
