Which is the better choice?I have a tripod and would love to take some pics of myself and other family but can't decide on the best camera.

  1. Since you cannot change lenses on P&S cameras, buying one with a 10x optical zoom is a better strategy.

    On pixel counts.

  2. Without a doubt, buy the Canon, for multiple reasons:

    1) The number one reason, is of course, Canon's optics. Canon has fantastic lenses, and they're SLR lens technology transfers over to their P&S.

    2) No person buying a point-and-shoot camera needs 12 megapixels. To make the standard 4x6 print at high-quality 300dpi resolution, one only needs 3.2 megapixels. Yeap.

    3) To be honest and frank, Kodak is complete c**p. When my family has needed a point-and-shoot, they have always bought a cheaper Kodak and have yet to have one last more than a year. I bought one of the earliest Nikon Coolpix cameras (about a decade ago) and I still use it from time to time. Not only does it take much higher-quality pictures (not higher resolution - it's only 2.1mp (10 years old) - but it has a fantastic lens) but it has lived the life of at least 10 Kodaks.

Basically, if you buy a point-and-shoot, you can't go wrong with a Nikon or Canon. Olympus and Fuji are also good, and sometimes Sony, but on the average consumer level, you can't get any better than Nikon or Canon.

  3. I vote for the Canon.  You're gonna want that 10x zoom.

  4. HI there,

The best advice I can give you in the position I am in....

No question...  it is the Canon... hands down.  :))
