I need advice please...

My house has been on the market for about three weeks now. I am using a real estate agent. I have had 2 people view the house since I've put it on the market. Both times I was not home during the viewing and have come home to find my lights left on inside the house. During the 2nd viewing I was out of town for a couple of days and came home to find my door was left unlocked as well as the lights left on.

I am upset with this. Would I be out of line by asking the real estate agent to please leave my house as they have found it- lights OFF and door LOCKED? And if I come home to find my lights on and the door left unlocked, I will make it so the real estate company can not get in my home without me being there.

But that may cause me to potentially loose a sale, like if I happen to go out of town again and that is the only time the potential buyer can view my home.

What can I do here?

  1. Leaving the door unlocked is BAD.  Leaving the lights on, is bad, but what can you do.

Most lock boxes have a system that allows the listing agent to see who has shown the house.  I would talk with the listing agent about it.

Is the door hard to lock.  I can't tell you the number of times that I have had trouble unlocking or locking doors.

  2. By all means talk to your realtor-but why not just post a small note on the front door (inside) reminding all to please lock the deadbolt and turn off all lights before leaving.

  3. Put a reminder sticky note on the door???

Please be kind, save energy.  Please remember to turn all my lights off and lock my door.

    You could add a comment:

Yes, I have found the door unlocked after the house has been shown.

Other than that, talk to the listing agent as has been said before.
