i dont want to go to the olympics or anything big, just as a hobby, like playing on a basketball team.

the only problem is i live in hawaii, and theres only ONE ICE RINK IN THE WHOLE STATE!! plus my parents are ALWAYS working, and dont let me take the bus to town.(luckily my parents are pretty cupportive of anything i want to do but i dont know about figurer skating yet.)

  1. just go wen ur parents get home from work. or find a friend that wants to do it with you and have there parents drive u and her or an older sibling

  2. You could save up for synthetic ice. They distribute to all of the USA - google 'synthetic ice rink' - or kwikrink has it.

You can have this stuff inside or out, plus you can spin and jump on it.

Or you could take up roller figure skating. You still have the boots and stuff, but not blades. You can have inline skates or quad.

    Good Luck!

  3. Hi, I'm 13 too.  I've been skating 1 time a week for 2 and a 1/2 years,  and have had a coach for a little more than 1 year.  I Live 90 miles away from my closest rink!  I live on a farm ( 125 acres ) so my dad is all ways busy with it, and my mom takes care of a 92 year old man 7 days a week!  At the level ( FS 4 ) I'm at my coach says I should be skating at least 3 times a week!  But the amazing thing is When I started with the same kids and I've kept up with them!  They skate 3-5 a week and Have 1-4 hours  ( I only have 20 minutes )of privite lessons!  I say all this to tell you that if you get there 1 time a week it is possible for you to get good.   I hope you can find a way.  It's really fun!    I hope I kinda answered your question.  I reccomend talking to your parents! Bye!

  4. I think you should go some time just to get the feel of it and then if you like it go for it.

  5. I've been to that ONE rink!  It's nice!  I skated in the first Skate Aloha competition.  I didn't do so hot because I fell asleep on the beach the day before I skated and burned my butt!  Ooooh, sit spins did not feel good!  :(

Check into the group lesson program at your rink.  The lessons are usually cheaper than private lessons and there are other skaters in your group, so you make new friends who also like to skate....maybe you'd even meet someone to carpool with.  They may have different times that work with your parents schedules or on their days off.  Would they let you take the bus with your sister?  Maybe you could both skate and ride the bus together.  Could another friend or relative take you?  Maybe offer to help them out with something if they take you to lessons.  Sit down with your parents and talk about it.  Research out as much as you can about cost, cost for skates and how you would get there.  Present it as maturely as possible and state your case.  Maybe they can come up with some options for you.

    Good luck!
