I need advice?

My parents put me into a S.A.T preparation course, called "Elite". They have a policy of cheating. So if you cheat, you get expelled from that course. IT costs $2200 and there are no refunds if you get caught cheating. It is an 8 week course. So today we had a vocabulary test. The teacher said if we don't get a 36 or above, we have to dance and sing in front of the class. That is embarrassing, and i did not want to do that. Passing grade was 32. The total points were 40. So me and 2 other people changed each others scores so it was above 36. The teacher caught a bunch of students and now i'm about to get kicked out. This happened at the end of the course, so my parents don't know. I cheated because i did not want to dance in front of the class. I have to tell my parents because they have to talk to the head of "Elite S.A.T program". I am to scared to tell my parents. What is the best way to tell them and what reasons should i give them. Please help me as soon as possible. 10 pts =)

  1. It seems to me pretty ridiculous for the teacher to threaten the students with that. Are you sure it wasn't a joke?

You should just tell your parents the truth--down to the teacher's threat. The damage has been done.

Late add: I agree with Macho's points.... Teachers are people, too, and unfortunately, some of them are bullies. That was dumb of your teacher. At least you benefited from most of the course, and you can keep studying on your own to score well on the actual SAT. Good luck!

  2. you should tell your parents the truth.  make sure that the teacher's threat is known so that they can relay that message to the head of the program.

they will be upset with you but will appreciate your honesty.

  3. Bummer! Okay, the first thing you need to do is tell your parents to sit down, and just tell them. Say, "Mom and Dad, I'm so sorry to tell you this, but I got expelled from Elite. The teacher told us that if we didn't get a 36 or above, we'd have to sing and dance in front of the class. I didn't want to cheat, but the teacher's threat made me scared, so I changed my score so it was above 36. Please don't be mad." Let them say what they want, but then talk to them and try to figure out a plan so you can still graduate. Sorry to hear about that... and good luck!

  4. This is why teachers should never make any threats to kids. No matter how small it seems to them. Some kids are VERY gullible. You really shouldn't have changed your grade though. You must learn that some teachers are just mean people and will say anything to get under your skin. I don't think she would of made you do that----in fact, she couldn't of made you do that. It has nothing to do with the programme. Just explain the truth to your parents. Hopefully they see that there are 2 wrongs. But next time, NEVER fall for a teacher threat especially like that. She was just trying to make you score high but she did it the wrong way! I would also have a talk with that teacher about her threats.

  5. Simple... BE HONEST.  You'll get in trouble but at least you are being upfront and it may not be as bad.  Might as well talk to them before they are called.

  6. Look at it this way... you say this happened at the END of the course, so you really covered all the course material to prepare you for the SAT.  Hopefully you learned the skills necessary to better prepare you for this important exam.  Altough you are scared to tell your parents, you are no longer a child but a young adult: admit what you did, give your reasons, and make no apologies unless you are truly sorry for your actions.  Judging by your comments, it seems you believe you did the right thing.  Stand up for yourself.
