They only cut 2 people at the front desk. I was working all the way from Spring Break til now at 53 hours a week. Now I am only working 42 hours. They didn't cut this one guy at work who is always messing up. He still works 50 hours a week. He always does drugs at work. He comes and goes as he pleases. He is loud and rude all the time. When it was busy he would always clock out early and left me to deal with all the check-ins and problems. He has been here longer than me though. But still I work way harder than he does. He is buddy buddy with the supervisor so I think that has a lot to do with him getting more hours. He curses all the time at the front desk. He goes wondering around the hotel and leaves me at the front desk alone. He is all the time watching movies and listening to his music on the computer instead of working. What do ya'll think? Is this fair? What should I do? Should I say something to the supervisor?

  1. If he isn't pulling his weight while working with you, you can speak to a supervisor.   Whether you should or not???  I don't really know.  If the boss and him are buddies, you may be out of luck.  You might look like a whiner or something.

Have you tried speaking directly to this guy?  I had a similar thing happen to me.  I told the guy he better not leave me in the lurch again, or I would talk to the boss.  I told him how inconsiderate and unprofessional he was, too.

The thing is, if this guy is a druggie - who knows how he'll react?  It sounds like drugs are already affecting his performance.  People are bound to complain about him.  Hopefully, the boss will then take action without you getting involved.

You're in a tough spot.  Forty two hours is still a lot of hours, so you could also try to wait it out.  Good luck.

And for the record - it doesn't sound fair to me.

  2. IF every thing you have here is true, then yes you should speak with management or HR, if the hotel has an HR department,  about your concerns and the supervisor who allows this to happen. state facts not opinions, do not blame others and do not embellish, just state facts and your concerns about how YOU are treated.

as far as legalities in cutting the hours, unless you have a contract that states otherwise,  the employer may change your hours and schedule as they deem necessary for the operation of the business. they can cut hours, add hours or change scheduled shifts to meet the flow of business.

is this fair? IF you have stated facts and not emotions then of course this is not fair but...............

i don't work with you or supervise this situation so what i think is fair is really not relevant.
