I need an M license to drive a Suzuki Burgman 400 scooter, do they have restricted licenses for moped users?

I dont care to learn how to ride an actual motorcycle.

  1. Actually, you should be able to take the test with the scooter.

    The written part (of the test) is usually just general knowledge

    about traffic anyway.

    The practical portion (of the test) is just you showing that you

    can handle the scooter properly...better for all of us.


  2. A scooter is a motorcycle, but a motorcycle is not a scooter. Many of the principles are the same, so I suggest that all riders take the rider course & get their license.  Many now allow you to use your own scooter in the class. It will be safer for all of us other riders and drivers out there.

    Now if you mean an actual "moped" which is typically defined as a motorized 2-wheeled vehicle less than 50cc with working pedals---then many states do not require a license. But if you want a higher displacement than 49cc you must get the license.

    It's not that hard if you study. I did the driving part with no problem--piece of cake! And I was so happy once I go it that the smile on my face made for the best driver's license photo I ever took. :)
