  1. Read the book Stone Soup. Help the kids make a list of all the vegetables they can think of. Post the list for parents to see, ask each family to send in a vegetable and make Stone Soup. Before you cook have a tasting party with some of the raw veggies and graph the kids' likes and dislikes. Take lots of pictures and let the kids dictate a story about the whole project. Put it all together in a book, laminate the pages or cover them with clear contac and add the book to your classroom library.( If you have any way to take the kids to a local farmstand or supermarket it is even better to take them  shopping for the vegetables.)

  2. Picture cards and plastic vegetables.........this is can be done as a group activity first and then placed on the shelf for children to use during work time.

When presenting the lesson, bring the vegetables and cards to the circle, take each vegetable, one at a time, say the name, pass it around the circle and each child says the name.  When finished with each vegetable, have the children take turns to match the card to the vegetable and say the name.  You can make an activity sheet so the children can color the vegetables and trace the names.  You can also expand the lesson by talking about the color of the vegetables, the vitamins each provides, etc...

you might also provide a snack of some of the vegetables you have talked about.

  3. Hi there

Sounds like you are taking a college course and are in midterm project?  or just need help.  I was in college too.

If this does not help try the internet.

Or stop by a preschool they will give you better ideas to share.

Get some peanut butter, celery sticks and smear it on them..

Tell the kids to say a nursery rhyme with them eating peanut butter on their tongue.

    Hope this helps.

Make sure there are no allergies and cut them as big as their mouth can fit.  You might have fun.  email me at jaykay31@yahoo.com to see if you did this.  I took 14 units of college.  I am not sure if this is what you need.

    Hope it helps???

When you email just say Yahoo answers so I know who you were from and tell me the kids reaction.  If you do it...

Ps.  If you need more help.

Email me on more stuff.  As I said I have been through college and have a ton of material on classes.

  4. my favorite activity for this topic is reading stone soup...and then making stone soup....that way there is a listening, reading(the recipe in picture form), and a fun tasting experience(of course there is sharing also as you will be asking each child to bring something to go in the soup)

Before you start send a letter home with each child: let the parents know what you will be doing and ask each parent to send one or two items(ex one potatoe, or a few carrots, or some spices), and then ask if there are one or two parents who can help on the day of soup making.

Choose a few stones (about one or two inches around) and then boil them for several minutes to be sure they are clean.

read the story to the children and be sure to try to do it one or two time before you make the soup...allow the children to ask questions and of course answer ones for you...discuss how much each person can help others.....have several copies of the book avail in the book center.....

on the day you make the soup show the children the stones you will use have them make a recipe chart using pictures(with the help of the storybook) and have them help prepare the vegetables cleaning and cutting the softer ones and of course stirring the soup as it cooks.....

afterwords (while eating) discuss how the soup would look and taste without each of the vegetables...and of course how it took all of them to help make it....

have fun....my children want to do this over and over again(bonus they are happy to eat vegetables)

  5. How about bringing in a bunch of different vegetables and allowing children to sample them.  You can ask them questions as they sample.  How does this taste?  Is it sweet, sour, bitter?  Which one do you like the best?  Which one do you like the least?  You can also graph the results by having pictures of the vegetables and putting the childs name on the one they like the best.  Then you can talk about which one was the most favorite/least favorite.  You have also covered math!

Also you can have them paint with vegetables.  This allows them to touch and play with them.  Ask them how they feel, how they look, what colors they are painting with.  They can then tell you something about their picture and you can write their exact words.

  6. rhyme:

    carrots for parrots

    beans for teens

    cauliflower gives you power

  7. I found this on a preschool curriculum website I use all the time, you can find most any theme on it. I figured you could plug in a vegetable where it says lemon. Probably a round one since it says "roll".
