Hi, I'm an 18 yr old guy and I'd like to be an actor or something like that..I mean..I LOVE to tell stories and pretend I'm someone else..I do it everyday just for fun when I'm home and when I do it I really think I'm someone else and I think it'd be great to be able to do it as a job..u know..I just wanna be in stories and be able to let people dream with these stories..u know..it may sound kinda cheezy or whatever...anyway I'm very shy and I get very nervous when I know ppl are judging me (like at auditions)

so do you think I'll be able to do what I like to do? (I dont have any experience in acting and stuff and I'm already 18) any advice?

The thing is my parents dont believe in me AT ALL and call me crazy(seriously) ...I have $11,000 or something so far..do you think thats ok for a start?

  1. The key point is to be an artist. Just pursue it, perform, perform, perform, in any possible play to get seen by as many people possible... You also have to identify a style that you want. A person, group, or company that really make you think "I want to do that". Find a way to  practice with their technique (and i said practice, besides study). practice is finally what will get you on stage in a solid way. Make yourself clear if you want either a JOB or an artistic activity that will make you happy. Being notorious is not necessary being talented, or, even worse, it will make you compromise many ethical things that you might not like to do or act in plays that you dont really like. The commercial circuit not always cross roads with the pure artistic lane, so you have to be focused in what you deeply wish. If you are serious and work hard your family will support you. Welcome! Best of luck

  2. Plenty of actors are actually very shy--that's why they do film, as opposed to live theatre or something of that nature. For example, if you watch the Oscars you'll see some people who get up there and have no idea what they're doing, and seem really nervous making a speech. I think if this is what you really want to do, you should go for it. But, since you don't really have experience, I wouldn't just leap straight into trying to get jobs acting. Use that $11,000 to start yourself on a good education in drama or acting, something of that nature.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Don't give up even if your parent's aren't agreeing with your choices... Even if your parents think its crazy their your parents their going to stick with you through thick and thin. Don't feel you have to live up to anybodies dream cause you don't the only thing you have to live up to is yours and if that's what you want to do then look it up on-line and there are some where you don't have to pay anything and they'll pay you like $60 dollars and hour or something! Have fun acting

  4. Hi Alex. I love you desire to pursue something you truly love. Many actors have succeeded because they really set goals and did not let anyone stop them. My suggestion would be to become involved in local theatre to begin with. Learn the ropes and you will have the tools you need to move on to bigger and better things. Community colleges also offer great help for aspiring actors. I wish you the best. Reach for the stars!

  5. im an actress and you have to make sure your personality shines through, its okay to be nervous but let them see that you WANT it! go to an agency to start.

  6. im an actress and im a teen. when i was much younger people would tell me that i was crazy to act becuas ei was so so so shy. then they would see me do my stuff, and couldnt believ it! now im much more outgoing, and i think that acting gets people to really come out of their shells. what you need is a local agent. if you really have enough talent to act, then you will be able to get one, but if not...its gonna be tough. agents do not cost any money, but they charge typically about ten percent of your income from each payed acting job you do. also, you should take some camera acting classes to get experience with working in front of a camera.

  7. you have a great mindset for wanting to become an actor :D

So what you have to start out with is this...

    1)  Drop by your public library and pick up 3-4 books on acting (and read them all ! but don't stop there, keep getting more and more books:)

    2) Swing by a local community college and take a couple acting classes. OR you can find a couple professional acting classes in your city.

    3) start memorizing and (extensively) working on audition monologues

    4) Audition for all of your local community theatre, short films, and church performances etc...

    5) ***Stop and think to yourself, "Is this what I want to do with the rest of my life." If it's true, then continue on. If not, find another career path that suits you.***

    6) Get some head shots done (nothing too expensive or flashy, just something clean and professional)

    7) Put together your acting resume. It includes all performances, awards (for performing), and training that you've had

    8) Find and audition for nearly all SAG or AFTRA approved talent agencies

    9) If you don't want an agent, you can always audition at cattle calls, showcases, or talent searches

    10) and remember... ACTING IS A VERY ROCKY CAREER CHOICE :D be ready for lots of rejection, criticism, hard work, and perseverance

but you can do it!! ^.^
