Question:

I need an alternative to cloth diapers for a Camping Trip?

My family and I are going camping at Hershey Park in a few weeks. I am using cloth diapers at home to help keep my daughter rash free. I don't have enough diapers to last a week without doing laundry but if I use disposables she gets a horrible rash with just one diaper change. I need something in between. I have looked into G diapers but they seem expensive for just a week.

Thanks

Heather

  1. it might be something in the diaper she is allergic to.... look it up.. but if you cant figure it out, try Seventh Generation diapers, they are completely organic and biodegrateable, so they might not have the chemical or be made with the same material as the other disposables out there that your little girl's skin might be reacting to... also let her run around neked after you take off her diaper to let her skin dry off, and use something like Aquaphore when you do put her in a diaper to keep the skin rash free and to add a barrier

  2. You might want to look into Seventh Generation disposables, since it's just for a week. They have them at my local health food store, but a lot of other places carry them. I think you can even get them at diapers.com and amazon.com.

They don't use chlorine, so they look sort of like a paper bag color-wise, but the chlorine in most disposables is usually what gives sensitive-skinned babies a rash. Also, use either Boudreaux's Butt Paste or pure lanolin with them as a preventative measure, since she seems to break out really fast. My daughter VERY rarely gets diaper rash, but when she does, pure lanolin protects and heals it up fast for her.

  3. You could try using Tushies diapers. These diapers are made with cotton instead of jell. Here is the website: http://www.diapers.com/Shop/Brands.aspx?...

  4. if you go to a local coin op laundry, a lot of the time they have a diaper service and you can usually swindle a bundle of cloth diapers for pretty cheap. otherwise go and get a big tube of desitin diaper rash lotion, some baby powder and a package of the regular diapers.... and since your out in the woods, once she goes to the bathroom, get her cleaned up and just let her go nakey for awhile, until you feed her again, than put another diaper on and wait til she does her thing and then commando again.

  5. Will you be staying at the campground on Hershey Park grounds?  Most campgrounds have a washer and dryer available.  The Hershey Highmeadow Campground is one of the more accomadating ones.  You should call and see if they have the washer and dryer.  It'll be a pain to have to do laundry during vacation, but it'll be cheaper then buying more diapers and shouldn't take that long.

  6. Try a pack of Nature Baby diapers...free of all chemicals and also biodegradable.  Seventh Generation are not biodegradable...just chlorine free.  My son had horrible diaper rashes with Pampers so I switched to Seventh Generation and then Nature Baby.  I have seen the Nature Baby in Target but I order mine online at diapers.com.  If you do end up using disposables just let her go naked as much as possible to let air get to her bottom...fresh air is the best prevention and cure for diaper rash.  Good luck!
