I need to connect my turntables to my speakers, and I apparently need an amplifier or receiver (or do I?). What should I get? Any brand recommendations? I just want something that works.

  1. Depending on your sound needs go to a goodwill and find a stereo with an AUX IN RCA jack. Read the plate on the back and make sure it's at least 100W or greater  power consumption. I know it's kinda ghetto but it's cheap. The unit should be kinda heavy. Buy two if you need more power. Make sure they work! Switch the input k**b to AUX. An idea anyway.

  2. Yes, you need and amplifier of some sort.  Your turntables can't drive the speakers directly.  The difference between an amplifier and a receiver is that a receiver has a radio tuner, an amplifier does not.

Make sure that you have phono inputs to match your turntables.  If you have magnetic cartridges in the turntables, and the turntables don't have a built in pre-amp, then you will need to make sure that your Amp has a built in phono preamp.
